Design of a New Plastic Color Sample
When plastics are used, they often exhibit both highlights where light strikes the surface and shadows where it darkens, relative to the base color. Conventional flat color samples have made it difficult to capture such subtle nuances.
In collaboration with OK Kasei Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of plastic masterbatches, we developed a new color sample design that features a bold, tensioned rim. This sculptural form allows users to perceive richer and more varied color expressions than with traditional large, flat plates.
Furthermore, by dividing the surface into two finishes — mirror-polished and textured (grain-finished) — the plate makes the material’s full range of tactile and visual qualities visible.
